Porsche have undoubtedly been the class of the LMP1 field this year. However, the years to come are the key to a long term of success in any form of motorsport. In order to start looking to the future, Porsche have tested three young drivers in their Le Mans winning 919 Hybrid at the Circuit de Catalunya this week.
This week at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Mitch Evans (21), Kevin Magnussen (23) and last years LMP2 Le Mans winner, Oliver Turvey (28) all took it in turns driving the 919 Hybrid in order to get a feel for the car. Current Porsche driver and 2010 Le Mans winner, Timo Bernhard (34) was on hand as a mentor.
Each driver went thought a briefing in Weissach prior to the test. They also went through the information about the viechel before driving the car in the simulator. Seidel continued: “Everyone involved will learn a lot in this test, which is the purpose of the exercise”
In an interview with Porsche team manager, Andreas Seidel, he said: “We regularly scan various motorsport categories for strong drivers, both inside and outside of the Porsche family. We are very pleased that our test program has brought these three drivers to Barcelona”
