Porsche have burst back onto the top level of sportscar racing this year with fantastic results, including a double podium at the last race in Bahrain. They have fielded two cars for the full season in 2014 and will continue to do so, with the same drivers in 2015.
Porsche are going to be stepping their campaign up a notch in 2015 with a third car at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The German marque has also announced that, much like Audi have done in years gone past, they will also be entering the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with the third car as a practice for the big race in France. The drivers of the third car are yet to be announced, but there is set to be many suggestions up until the decision is made.
The Director of Research and Development at Porsche, Wolfgang Hatz stated “This is about the highest performance at maximum efficiency in new dimensions. Therefore, we meet this challenge in 2015, with the three Porsche 919 hybrids. ”
With the news that Porsche will be fielding 3 cars as well as Audi and Nissan, the number of LMP1 Hybrid cars competing at Le Mans next year currently stands at 11. The endurance classic is set to be as exciting as ever in 2015.
